Sina Gerard also started setting up small agro-processing industries where his agriculture yields and that of his neighbors were taken to be processed so that they can take high quality products at the market. Beyond the Rwandan borders, Sina Gerard was invited to attend various summit where he showcased his products and among the awards he received, there is the International Quality Awards which was offered by the International Quality Summit Institute in New York.
Sina Gerard mentioned to us that he has different processing industries that process both his food products and drinks from the crops they grow and animals they rear. In these different industries, he uses permanent workers who are paid monthly and around workers who work as per time employees.
He told the Voice of Investors that he also receives agricultural yields from around five thousand families who grow and rear his cattle, swine, rabbits and chicken production. He added that, his products are now well known across the African continent, America and the Europe.
He not only employs people but also trains them the culture of saving where by four to five hundred parents whom he employs are paid through Bank of Kigali BK in Rulindo branch. The company works with an average of 3, families involved with farming. Sina has also provided contracted farmers with social programs such as microcredit financing, education, and agronomic training programs.
He used a starting capital of 33,RWF value and produce from his parents' farm to start a small bakery. With his bakery, his launched his signature Urwibutso donuts, which later became the name of his multiple ventures.
When his bakery started producing a return on investment, Sina expanded and ventured into fruit-juice making. He is also a pig farmer, timber maker, bakery owner, supermarket owner, spice maker, and philanthropist.
He was born in the Northern Province, the district of Rulindo; sector of Tare and cell of Nyirangarama. The later, Nyirangarama, became his nickname because of the impact the business on the community.
He is married and has three children. Sina Gerard. The town did not have a school until Gerard built one. He hopes some of the school's graduates will join him in his work and become successful business people themselves. But, though he is always a visionary, some of Gerard's methods are more unconventional than others. He has been experimenting with playing music to his pigs and claims he has seen an improvement in productivity.
He has even set up a control group, which is not played music, to prove his pig-nurturing theory. They eat well, they don't waste what they eat, they deliver well.
They even mate well. But what drives Gerard to keep trying out new ideas and keep expanding into so many different businesses?
